Traditional buildings often present a dilemma when renovating or extending. A building must fulfill
the functional needs of everyday use, but in such a way that the character and charm of the
building is protected or enhanced. This balance requires a level of insight and knowledge that can
only be developed with experience.
Our ethos is to highlight and celebrate the original features of a building, be it a humble vernacular
cottage or a grand Georgian house, while ensuring modern comforts and conveniences are also
discretely catered for.
We have extensive experience in working on Listed period buildings and in conservation areas.
Providing sympathetic additions, refurbishing buildings and reworking layouts to give them a new
lease of life, often through a change of use.
We have worked on buildings ranging from two room rural cottages to a listed shirt factory of five
floors and each one has been allowed to tell its own story in the finished product.
Our design work is carried out by a fully accredited RIBA Conservation Architect and we draw from
our considerable experience and our contacts with specialist suppliers and manufacturers to ensure
that we deliver a product that is unsurpassed in terms of design, detailing, and quality of materials
used. Interior design and sourcing of appropriate period furniture can also be included if desired.
We have formed invaluable working relationships over the years with experts ranging from
Environmental Consultants to suppliers of antique fittings and furniture who may be called upon if
and when your project requires.
These services can be provided within a “Design & Build Package”.
